The Palio

I visit Italy at least four or five times a year, but I can never seem to align my schedule with the Palio – the famous horse race around the Piazza del Campo, which is held twice each summer in Siena – July 2nd, and August 16th. Apparently, the actual race takes only a couple of minutes, and each year, a few of the bareback riders are thrown before making it to the finish line. I would love to see the race someday, and I can imagine how much fun it would be to stay nearby in the days the lead up to the Palio, in the middle of all of the pageantry and anticipation. On this visit to Siena, however, I stayed at the Grand Continental, which is quite near the Piazza del Campo. For clients who want to be in the thick of the race, I have access to an apartment that overlooks the track!
